Two members of the Dare County Board of Commissioners, Joseph ``Mac'' Midgett and Samuel O. ``Sammy'' Smith, filed papers Thursday for the May 7 primary elections.
Midgett, a Rodanthe Democrat, represents Hatteras Island on the seven-member governing board. He will be challenged by Doug Price, a Republican.
Smith, a Democrat, represents Kitty Hawk, Southern Shores and Duck. Republican Cheryl Byrd has filed qualifying papers to challenge Smith.
In the nonpartisan race for seats on the Dare County Board of Education, the Rev. David Daniels filed Thursday for re-election. Businesswoman Pamela ``Susie'' Walters will challenge Daniels for the seat.
