Mr. Robert L. Whiteman, age 82, died Jan. 6, 1996, after a brief illness.
Mr. Whiteman retired from the Edenton Cotton Mill where he was an administrative assistant to the superintendent. He was a member and deacon of the Edenton Baptist Church. He was a lifelong member of International Order of Red Men (I.O.R.M.)
Mr. Whiteman is survived by his wife, Emma Twiddy Whiteman of the home; one son, Robert L. Whiteman Jr. of Raleigh, N.C.; four daughters, Lillian Lussier of Pawtucket, Rhode Island, Grace Gray of Elizabeth City, Laurie Owens of Edenton, Vivian Whiteman of Wilson, N.C.; one sister, Mary Mizell of Leicester, N.C.; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. in the Edenton Baptist Church by Dr. Kenneth Word. Burial will follow in the Beaver Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 104 Iredell Drive, Edenton. The Evans Funeral Home, Edenton, is in charge.
