1 DEAD, 2 HURT AFTER HEAD-ON BEACH COLLISION

One woman was killed and another critically injured early Saturday when a pickup traveling at high speed sideswiped one car, crossed into oncoming traffic and rammed another car head-on, police said.

Police said the driver of the pickup, who also was hospitalized, will be charged with drunken driving.

The wreck occurred about 1 a.m., said police spokesman Mike Carey.

The 1989 Chevrolet pickup, driven by Larry R. Coley, 18, of the 3500 block of North Crestline Drive, was heading west on Ferrell Parkway, ``weaving and traveling at an extremely high rate of speed,'' Carey said.

About a half-mile east of Indian Lakes Boulevard, the pickup - in the right lane - passed and sideswiped a 1991 Ford Escort that was in the left lane and was also traveling west. That car was driven by Jonathan Quijano Bonilla, 19, of the 500 block of Cedar Road in Chesapeake.

Bonilla, who was not hurt, told police that after the impact, the pickup sped off.

When the pickup reached the Indian Lakes intersection, it crossed the median strip and headed into the southbound lanes of Ferrell Parkway, Carey said. There it struck a 1990 Honda Accord head-on. The pickup flipped and came to a stop upside-down.

In the wreckage of the Honda, a passenger identified as Sheila P. Jordan, 42, of the 1400 block of Deer Pond Lane, was found unconscious. She and the driver, Pamela L. Nelson, 34, of the 1000 block of 24th St., were taken to the Trauma Center at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

Jordan was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital. Nelson remained in critical condition Saturday with multiple injuries.

Coley was taken to the Trauma Center at Virginia Beach General Hospital, where he was being treated for multiple injuries.

Carey said numerous charges are pending against Coley and will be filed against him when he is released from the hospital.

The wreck closed eastbound Ferrell Parkway for about four hours.
