Arson was the cause of a Friday morning fire that swept through a nearly complete, 8,000-square-foot house in the 1300 block of Taylors Point Road, Battalion Chief Chase Sargent said Monday.
Arson investigators from the fire marshal's office made the ruling, Sargent said. Evidence collected was being sent to the state crime lab for an analysis.
The fire caused $550,000 to $650,000 in damage to the house, which was 80 percent completed and was being built in the Linkhorn Shores neighborhood.
The owner of the home is John H. Fain, who is president and majority owner of Metro Information Services of Virginia Beach, an information technology consulting firm.
Firefighters reported the blaze at 1:35 a.m. and brought it under control an hour later.
