Retired Lt. Cmdr. Kenneth E. Hampel, 52, of the 1000 block of Apple Valley Court, died Jan. 10, 1996, in a local hospital.
He is survived by his wife, Diane Phillips-Hampel; two daughters, Candace Caye Landis of Chesapeake, and Amber Lynn Hampel of Virginia Beach; two sisters, Dawna G. Cannady of Port Hayward, Va., and Amie M. Hampel of Virginia Beach; a brother, Earl M. Hampel Jr. of Virginia Beach; and two grandchildren.
Lt. Cmdr. Hampel served 28 years in the U.S. Navy. He was Methodist by faith. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge (NU)257 in Great Bridge, the Grice Commandery, Khedive Temple and the VFW.
A memorial service will be held at the Oceana NAS Base Chapel at 10 a.m. Friday with full military honors. Rev. Warren Chapman will be presiding. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Disabled American Veterans. Altmeyer Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
