Helen Ware Leavitt, 76, of Cedar Lane, died Thursday, Jan. 11, 1996, in a Norfolk hospital.
She was born in Norfolk, and was the widow of former Norfolk Sheriff Charles Humphrey Leavitt Sr.
Mrs. Leavitt was an accomplished accountant and bookkeeper, but her joy in life was being a caring mother and loving wife. She was a member of Larchmont United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her son, Chaplain Charles H. Leavitt Jr., of the U.S. Navy, and his wife, Bonita, of Virginia Beach; one grandson, Charles Humphrey Leavitt III; brother-in-law, Linwood S. Leavitt and his wife, Virginia of Virginia Beach; and 10 cousins, Hazel Lawson, Sarah Lawson Smith, and Rebecca Lawson MacGlouglin, all of Virginia Beach, James A. Lawson III of Norfolk, Margaret Manlove Costen of Chesapeake, Mary Lawson Price of Gloucester, Va., Jean Manlove Claar of Charlotte, N.C., Billie Ruth Hummel of Seattle, Wash., Dr. Frank Manlove of Bryn Mawr, Pa., and Ruth Manlove of Media, Pa.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in Larchmont United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will be at Cox Funeral Home Sunday afternoon from 3 to 4 p.m. for visitation.
