Frances L. Alwood, a School Board member and Habitat for Humanity Inc. project manager, was named on Friday as winner of this year's Athena award.
The annual award, given by the Suffolk division of the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce, is presented to a woman who has distinguished herself in career and community.
Alwood, a retired teacher and guidance counselor, will be honored at the chamber's volunteer recognition banquet at the National Guard Armory on Jan. 25. Tickets are $35, or $240 for a table of eight.
