STANLEY H. LEONARD JR.

Stanley Hoerle Leonard Jr., 71, of 3214 Bay Drive, died Jan. 12, 1996, in a Virginia Beach hospital.

He was a native of Portsmouth and a graduate of VPI, class of 1945, as a civil engineer. He was a member of St. Andrews by the Sea Episcopal Church, Nags Head, N.C. He was a member of Masonic Lodge (NU)274, Virginia Beach, and was a past master. He was in the Scottish Rites of Freemasonry (SJ) and a member of Khedive Temple A.A.O.N.N.S. of Chesapeake. He was a past member of the Portsmouth Jaycees and was also a member of the National Association of Superintendents of Naval Shore Establishments.

He worked at the Naval Supply Center, Norfolk, for 26 years, before transferring to the Naval Supply Center, Pearl Harbor, where he worked for four years and retired from Navy Petroleum Office Cameron Station, Alexandria, Va., after one and a half years as head of the Technical Assistance Team, and member of the Naval Supply Systems Inspector Generals Team.

He was the youngest Civil Service employee to be promoted to master mechanic, fuel operations, and the fuel superintendent. He served in both positions at the two largest naval fuel terminals, Norfolk, where he received many awards and commendations, including several meritorious and superior performance awards. He was made an honorary Supply Corps officer in 1979. He was nominated as Naval Supply Systems Command employee of the year and Pacific Ocean Area employee of the year.

Survivors include his wife, Letitia Thomson Leonard; a daughter, Anne Carroll Baumstark and her husband, Jim; three sons, Scott Leonard and his wife, Bettie, of Virginia Beach, Stephen Leonard of Virginia Beach, and Robert Leonard and his wife, Susanne, of Annadale, Va.; three stepsons, Robert Thomson III and his wife of Ridgecrest, Calif., James N. Thomson and his wife of Virginia Beach, Pete Thomson and his wife of Arlington, Va.; and three stepgrandchildren.

A graveside service will be held Monday at 10 a.m. in Eastern Shore Chapel Cemetery by the Revs. Charles E.B. Gill and Paul Mericle of St. Andrews by the Sea Episcopal Church, Nags Head, N.C. A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at St. Andrews by the Sea Episcopal Church. Friends may join the family at the Maestas Funeral Home, Baltic Ave. Chapel, today from 3 to 4 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Virginia Beach Rescue Squad Building Fund, P.O. Box 945, Virginia Beach, Va. 23451. Masonic rites will be accorded at the grave.
