SEDWARD TAYLOR

Sedward M. Taylor, 77, died Jan. 11, 1996, in Leigh Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Taylor, the son of the late Ester and Milton Taylor, was born in Staten Island, N.Y., on April 1, 1918. He attended public schools on Staten Island and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Mr. Taylor married the late Willie Mae Taylor and they became the parents of Sigrid M. and the late Kenneth R. Taylor.

In 1974, Mr. Taylor married the former Alice West Coleman. They retired in 1980 and moved to Virginia Beach and enjoyed a total of 21 full and happy years together as husband and wife. Mr. Taylor was a member of Second Calvary Baptist Church of Norfolk.

He studied mechanics and worked 32 years as a bus mechanic for the New York City Transit Authority. He also attended a school of photography and performed many hours of freelance work in that field.

Survivors include his wife, Alice Taylor of Virginia Beach; a daughter, Sigrid M. Taylor of Staten Island, N.Y.; a stepdaughter, Marcia Coleman-Smith of Portsmouth; three stepsons, Thomas E. Coleman of Virginia Beach, Richard A. Coleman of Hampton, Va., and Eric D. Benjamin-Coleman of Suffolk; a sister, Barbara Harris of Staten Island, N.Y.; a brother, Clifford Herring of Staten Island, N.Y.; and several nieces, nephews and 13 grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Second Calvary Baptist Church by the Rev. Geoffrey V. Guns. Burial will be in Colonial Grove Memorial Park, Virginia Beach. The family will receive friends at the Graves Funeral Home from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
