EUNICE JARVIS

Eunice Coen Jarvis, 77, of the 5800 block of West Norfolk Road, died Jan. 13, 1996, in a Portsmouth nursing home.

Mrs. Jarvis was a school crossing guard for 20 years and a member of Sweethaven Baptist Church. She was a native of Calhoun County, W. Va.

Mrs. Jarvis was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest David Jarvis. She is survived by a daughter, Susan Diane Johnston, and her husband, Larry, of Portsmouth; three sons, Lewis Jarvis, and wife, Patricia, of Portsmouth, Billy Jarvis, and wife, Dee, of Graham, Wash., and Dale Jarvis and wife, Sharon, of Stafford, Va.; a sister, Beulah Jarvis of Ivydale, W. Va.; three grandchildren, Charlotte Alexander, and her husband, Wayne, of Portsmouth, Steven Jarvis, and wife, Lori, of Rayford, N.C., and Elizabeth Anne Jarvis of Portsmouth; two great-grandchildren, Sommer Lane Alexander and Athena Ripley Alexander. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and step-grandchildren whom she regarded as family.

A funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, Jan. 16, at 2 p.m. in Loving Funeral Home with the Rev. Lew Hunter officiating. Interment will follow in Olive Branch Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Sweethaven Baptist Church Building Fund, 5000 West Norfolk Road, Portsmouth, Va. 23703. A heartfelt thanks to ``those special friends'' and Dianne Elliott, Nurse Shirley and all the caregivers at Churchland House for their compassion and caring in helping Mother's last days be comfortable ones.
