MABEL NORMAN

Mabel Haley Norman, 90, formerly of 110 Suburban Parkway, Norfolk, Va., died Jan. 11, 1996, in a Virginia Beach hospital.

Mrs. Norman was the widow of Harry Norman Sr. She was a native of Pittsylvania County, Va., and graduated salutatorian from Pittsylvania High School after earning a gold medal from the Whitehead English Memorial. She was a 1934 graduate of Norfolk General Hospital School of Nursing. She became a registered nurse and performed hospital duties and private duty nursing. Prior to her illness, she attended Talbot Park Baptist Church. She was a member of the Sunshine Club and the Waters Bible Class.

Survivors include a son, H. Glenn Norman Jr.; daughter-in-law, Catherine S. Norman; two grandsons, Jeffrey C. Norman and H.G. Norman III and his wife, Nancy; a great-grandson, Ryan G. Norman; and two step great-granddaughters, Jennifer and Christina Bailey, all of Virginia Beach.

A graveside service will be conducted Jan. 16, 1996, at 1 p.m. in Forest Lawn Cemetery by Dr. Paul C. Lawson of Spurgeon Memorial Baptist Church. Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel is in charge. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday between 7 and 8:30 p.m.
