Charles D. Myers
ALEXANDRIA - The Rev. Charles Delbert ``Buddy'' Myers, a retired minister, 76, died Jan. 13, 1996, in Alexandria.
Rev. Myers was the band leader of the Buddy Myers Orchestras from 1931 to 1961. Following his music career, he spent 30 years in the ministry, as a preacher, teacher and singing evangelist.
He attended high school in Norfolk and was a graduate of Ferrum College and Duke University Seminary. He was a minister and elder of the United Methodist Church, Virginia Conference.
The Rev. Myers is survived by his wife, Mattie Lee Myers of Alexandria; a daughter, Brenda M. Levins of Jacksonville, Fla.; three sons, Delbert L. ``Butch'' Myers of Virginia Beach, William F. Myers of North Wilksboro, N.C., and James E. Childers of Garden Grove, Calif. He is also survived by a sister, Ethel Ciccone of Virginia Beach; 16 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Monday in Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel by the Rev. Wesley Peyton of Victory Fellowship Church in Newington, Va. Burial was in Colonial Grove Memorial Park, Virginia Beach. The family received friends at 604 Cardamon Court, Virginia Beach.
