An 18-year-old man who was hospitalized after a head-on accident that left one woman dead and another critically hurt has been charged with involuntary manslaughter.
Police said Larry R. Coley Jr. of the 3500 block of North Crestline Drive was charged Thursday after he was released from a hospital where he has been since the Jan. 6 accident. Sheila P. Jordan, 42, of the 1400 block of Deer Pond Lane, a passenger in the car that was hit, was killed.
Coley also is charged with hit and run for allegedly striking another car just before the fatal wreck at the intersection of Indian Lakes Boulevard and Ferrell Parkway.
Police said at the time of the accident that Coley would probably be charged with drunken driving. Because evidence that he was intoxicated will be used in the manslaughter case, however, police said no DUI charge was filed, to avoid double jeopardy.
