GEORGE O. LABERGE

George O. Laberge, 87, born in Montreal, Canada, and a resident of the Tidewater area for over 47 years, died Thursday, Jan. 18, 1996, at Virginia Beach General Hospital.

Mr. Laberge was one of the founders of Walker & Laberge Glass Co. He and his late business partner and friend, Henry Walker, moved from Canada to Virginia and started their glass shop in early 1947. Although he retired from day-to-day duties, he remained a vital part of the operation and saw his company grow to be one of the largest glass companies in the United States. Mr. Laberge was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church and a member of the Norfolk Moose Lodge (NU)39.

Mr. Laberge is survived by his wife, Carmen Germanin Laberge of Montreal, Canada; the family of his late wife Jeanne Laberge; Bertha and Percy Ranger; and their family Claude Ranger, Pierre Ranger, Michael Ranger and Claudette Rezas; his business family, Violet Walker, Robert Walker, and Carole Still; his devoted employees of Walker & Laberge Co., Inc., and numerous friends.

The family will receive friends on Sunday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk. Funeral services will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church on Tidewater Drive at 11 a.m. on Monday. Burial will follow at Rosewood Memorial Park.
