William E. Newsome Sr.
NORFOLK - William Edward Newsome Sr., resident of the 900 block of Merrimac Ave. of Norfolk, died Jan. 18, 1996, at his residence.
He was a native of Camden County, N.C., and moved to Norfolk at an early age. He retired from Tidewater Regional Transit in 1978. He was a decorated Army veteran of World War II.
He leaves to mourn his wife, Hilda, and daughter, Hazel Newsome, both of Norfolk; three sons, James Harrell, William E. Newsome Jr., and Irving L. Newsome, all of Norfolk; stepson, Allen Harrell of Kernersville, N.C.; and his sisters, Bessie Johns of Virginia Beach, Delores Holmes of Chesapeake, and Doris Alston of Tallahassee, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, Jan. 23, at noon at Garrick Community Church, 2843 Victoria Ave., Norfolk, by Dr. Johnnie Reid. Family will be receiving visitors at 974 Armsville Circle, (NU)202, Norfolk. Carlos A. Howard Funeral Home in charge.
