BEACH MAN ACCUSED OF ABDUCTING, BEATING, RAPING NORFOLK WOMAN

A Virginia Beach man was arrested early Sunday morning after he allegedly abducted, beat and raped a 30-year-old Norfolk woman, police spokesman Larry Hill said Monday.

Police said the attack began about 5 p.m. Saturday when the woman was leaving a 7-Eleven store in the 3000 block of East Ocean View Ave. She told investigators that the suspect hid in the back seat of her car, and then forced her at knifepoint to drive away.

Near the intersection of Diamond Springs and Newtown roads in Virginia Beach, Officer C.J. Lawson of Virginia Beach's 3rd Precinct stopped the car for a traffic violation.

``The officer suspected something may be wrong,'' Hill said. ``However, the victim, in her fright at the time, did not acknowledge to the officer that something was wrong.''

The woman was issued a citation and released, Hill said.

The man then forced her to drive to his home in the 5800 block of N. Ottawa Road in Virginia Beach, where he sexually assaulted and beat her, Hill said.

After the attack, the man drove her to the Shore Drive area near the city line and forced her out of the car, Hill said. A good Samaritan took the woman home, where she notified police.

The woman was treated at DePaul Medical Center and released.

After midnight, Norfolk police Investigator Roger Pedersen took the woman to the Arrowhead section of Virginia Beach, where she was assaulted. While they were in front of the suspect's house, the suspect drove past in the woman's stolen car, Hill said.

Pedersen put out a broadcast with a description of the car and suspect.

A Virginia Beach police helicopter and other patrol cars aided in the search. A short time later, Virginia Beach Officer M.E. Alexander spotted the car in the 200 block of Palmyra Drive. Officers found the man, again hiding in the back seat, Hill said.
