Eunice Mae Britt Ridley, 63, of the 200 block of Chowan Drive, died Jan. 19, 1996, in Portsmouth General Hospital, after a long illness.
She was a housewife. Born in Southampton County, Va., she was the daughter of the late Leroy and Nina Britt. She accepted Christ at an early age and joined Piney Grove Baptist Church, Newson, Va. At the time of her passing, she was a member of Healing Temple Pentecostal Holiness Church where she was known at ``Mother Ridley.'' She also had done missionary service and was a former minister of music for several churches.
She is survived by her loving husband, Willie Ridley of the home; five daughters, Phyllis Riddick, Lynn and husband Pete High, Denise and husband Chester Godfrey, and Carol and husband Tommy Elliott, all of Portsmouth, and Gloria Riddick of Charleston, W.Va.; two sons, James and wife Celestine Riddick of Portsmouth, and Brien Ridley of Charleston, W.Va.; two sisters, Bessie Darden of Portsmouth and Ophelia Burnette of Newark, N.J.; one brother, Roy Britt of Baltimore; two uncles, James Bynum and Hugh Britt; and a cousin, Ruth Wideman, all of Philadelphia; 21 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one stepdaughter; three stepsons; devoted ex-daughter-in-law, Gwendolyn Riddick Copoper; spiritual daughter, Evangelist Carlolyn Brown Baker; and a host of relatives; in-laws; church family; and numerous friends.
A homecoming celebration will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in New First Baptist, Taylorsville, 2720 Turnpike Road, by the Rev. T.M. Steele. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. The body will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. The family will receive friends at 2214 Queen St., and will assemble there for the procession to the church. Corprew Funeral Home is in charge.
