A 28-year-old Norfolk State University student was abducted Tuesday afternoon when, she said, a man with a knife stole her car.
The woman jumped out of her car, a 1986 Toyota, one block from where she was carjacked and escaped unhurt, said Larry Hill, spokesman for the Norfolk Police Department.
Police identified the woman as Adrienne Ward of Lord Byron Drive in Virginia Beach.
Hill said that Ward was attempting to leave Norfolk State at about 4:25 p.m. in the 900 block of Kenton Ave. when the man approached.
Brandishing a knife, the man forced Ward into her car and then got into the car and drove away from Kenton Avenue down Virginia Beach Boulevard.
In the 2400 block of Virginia Beach Blvd., the woman jumped out of the car and escaped.
The car was last seen going eastbound on Virginia Beach Boulevard. The car's Virginia license number is ZZL7659.
Hill said the suspect is described as a black male in his 30s, 5 feet 9 inches tall, 180 pounds, short hair, medium brown complexion and unshaven.
