``VAMPIRE'' HAD AGENDA AS RECRUITER, POLICE SAY POLICE HAVE FOUND A LIST OF CONTACTS, THEY SAY, AND ARE CALLING PEOPLE ON IT.

Jon C. Bush, the self-proclaimed leader of a clandestine vampire family, kept a list of at least 40 students' names and phone numbers to use as a recruiting tool, a detective disclosed Tuesday.

Investigators said Bush often called students, encouraging them to join his clan. Police are using the list to contact more potential sexual-assault victims.

``We have discovered information that indicates there were a number of other kids involved with him, or who had been contacted him,'' said Detective Don Rimer.

Rimer declined to say where he got the list.

Rimer said it was a chief duty of new initiates - especially male initiates - to recruit potential members.

Prospective female members, most between 13 and 16, had to submit to various sexual contacts with Bush, including breast-biting, oral sex or intercourse, police said. Those initiation rites have led to sexual assault charges against Bush, who is in jail without bond.

The cooperation of two female clan members led to the investigation and charges, and police have already interviewed as many as two dozen more girls who knew Bush.

Police said they will seek more than 20 felony indictments against the heating and air conditioning worker.

Members of the clan, which Bush said numbered 30, frequently painted their faces white and lips and nails black for excursions to area malls and the Oceanfront. Mainly, the clan's activities were social, Rimer said.

Rimer said Bush apparently had not contacted everyone listed in the ledger.

``We have already eliminated a number of kids who are one the list,'' Rimer said.

He said police will call the parents of each person listed, but he is also looking for people who don't appear in the log.

``If you are a parent with even the slightest indication your child knew (Bush), had contact with him, or knew about him, then we would appreciate a phone call,'' Rimer said.

Although some parents have expressed concerns about their children's safety, Rimer said he doesn't believe any of the former vampire clan members or potential recruits are in danger.

``There have not been any other persons named, as far as crimes are concerned,'' Rimer said. ``The only person who we believe was criminally involved in in jail.''

Rimer said he isn't aware of any threats made against clan members since Bush's arrest.

Anyone with information about Bush is asked to call Rimer at 427-4101.
