Weighing in at 1,600 pounds, a model of a juvenile humpback whale is

secured into place Wednesday at the Virginia Marine Science Museum's

new Atlantic Ocean Pavilion. The 40-foot fiberglass creation depicts

the type of young whales that frequent the waters off Virginia Beach

in the winter while the adults migrate to the Caribbean to breed.

The popular museum is nearing completion on a $35 million expansion

and renovation that will include a 300,000-gallon ocean aquarium,

70,000-gallon sea turtle aquarium, and first South Hampton Roads

IMAX theater. A June opening is planned.
