POLICE OFFICERS FUNDED

Fifteen officers soon will be added to the Newport News Police Department with $1.125 million provided by the U.S. Department of Justice. The grant was announced Thursday by Rep. Herbert H. Bateman.

The officers will be assigned to three areas considered a high priority in the police department's recent budget preparation process: the bicycle squad, the Police Athletic League and military housing.
