Jackie Young, one of the all-time football standouts at Deep Creek High School, died Tuesday.
The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Meadowbrook Mausoleum by the Rev. Roscoe Musselwhite.
Young, 44, was a dentist in Rockingham, N.C.
He is still the career passing leader at Deep Creek, throwing for 3,820 yards. He completed 252 of 548 passes, playing for Frank Webster and the late Carl Opauski.
He was the all-time leading passer in Southeastern District history until Aaron Sparrow shattered his record at Wilson in 1990.
Young earned a football scholarship from the University of South Carolina.
``He started for me as a 13-year-old freshman,'' recalled Webster. ``I knew then that he was going to be a great one. He had speed, could run the option and was an excellent passer.'' by CNB
