Thornton E. Barnes, 74, died Jan. 25, 1996, in Halifax Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Barnes, a native of Northampton County, N.C., was an assistant funeral director at Hunter's Funeral Homes. He was a member of First Baptist Church Severn. Mr. Barnes was a member of Pendleton Lodge (NU)497, Roanoke Chowan Consistory (NU)276, Rich Square. He was chairman of the Trustee Board, a Sunday school teacher and superintendent.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Martin Barnes of the home; a brother, Lorenzo Barnes of Washington, D.C.; two sisters, Nellie Taylor of Rich Square, N.C., and Gertharee Vaughan of Pendleton, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in First Baptist Severn by the Rev. Elisha Barnes. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Hunter's Funeral Home, Rich Square, N.C., is in charge.
