George Washington carries her fiance, AT-2 Mark Gertsma, on a

six-month peacekeeping mission to the Mediterranean and the waters

off Bosnia. At left, friends and loved ones bid farewell at the

Norfolk Naval Base Friday. The George Washington led a contingent of

15 U.S. warships that will relieve the America and its battle group.

The aircraft assigned to the George Washington will leave their land

bases today to join the carrier at sea.
