John Wallace Boyette Sr. of the 4200 block of Derby Wharf died Thursday, Jan. 25, 1996, in Virginia Beach General Hospital.
Mr. Boyette was retired from the U.S. Army with 20 years of service. After retiring from the Army he was employed at the Naval Supply Center, Norfolk, and also retired after 21 years. He was born in Whaleyville and was the son of the late Harry Boyette and Julia Clark Boyette Stith. Mr. Boyette was a member of Refuge C.O.G.I.C. and had been active in many phases of the life of the church, including the choir, Pastors Aid Society and the Deacon Board. During his military career Mr. Boyette served proudly in Vietnam and received a Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jessie W. Boyette of the home; two daughters, Linda D. Boyette of Nashville, Tenn., and Julie M. Boyette of the home; a son, John W. Boyette Jr. of Kansas City, Kan.; a sister, Francis Rivers-Brown; two grandchildren, Christine Boyette and Jessica Boyette; and daughter-in-law, Debra Boyette.
The funeral will be conducted at noon Wednesday by Elder David B. Williams and the Eulogy will be given by Elder Joseph T. Williams at C.H. Mason C.O.G.I.C. Burial is in Roosevelt Memorial Park. Viewing will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Riddick Funeral Service. The body will be placed in the church at 11 a.m. Wednesday. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
