Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Ward Chappell, 71, of Route 1, formerly of Norfolk, died Sunday evening, Jan. 28, 1996, in Albemarle Hospital.
A native of Perquimans County she was the daughter of the late Vernon L. Ward and Mary Morris Ward. She attened Christ Sanctified Holy Church and Up River Friends Meeting.
Survivors include her husband, David L. Chappell; daughter, Sandra K. White of South Mills; six sons, Carl Roger Chappell of Lawrenceville, Va., Phil W. Chappell and Ernie L. Chappell, both of Norfolk, David L. Chappell Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla., John V. Chappell of Virginia Beach, and Joseph Mark Chappell of Belvidere; brother, Haywood E. Ward of Moyock; 11 grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Chappell Family Cemetery, County Line Road, Belvidere, with the Rev. D.O. Dameron and the Rev. Jon Reece officiating. Swindell Funeral Home, Hertford, is in charge of the arrangements.
