About 100 Smithfield Foods Inc. employees began reporting to a new office earlier this month.
The meat-packing companies' accounting department has moved into its own building in Smithfield Shopping Center. The building at 1941 S. Church St. used to be occupied by Farm Fresh.
Before the move, Smithfield Foods' payroll department was based in the company's headquarters at 501 N. Church St. Meanwhile, the other two offices within the accounting department - purchasing and insurance - were operating from rented office space just outside Smithfield, in the Monette Building.
Aaron Trub, vice president and secretary of Smithfield Foods Inc., said the move was prompted by the need for additional space.
``The company is growing. We required additional space for ongoing operations and we decided to move the accounting department.'' by CNB
