SUBMARINE COMMISSIONING: The Navy will commission the attack submarine Greenville on Feb. 16 at Norfolk Naval Station. The 360-foot vessel, named for the city of Greenville, Tenn., will carry a crew of 140. Tipper Gore, wife of the vice president, is the ship's sponsor. Newport News Shipbuilding, builder of the vessel, will deliver a second attack submarine, the Cheyenne, in late summer. Greenville is the 52nd nuclear-powered submarine built by the company.
NORFOLK ASTRONAUT NAMED: Norfolk native Peter J.K. Wisoff has been named a mission specialist for the fifth scheduled shuttle mission to dock with Russia's Space Station Mir. The mission to the orbiting laboratory is scheduled for December. Wisoff, 37, flew on shuttle Endeavour in June and July 1993, and September and October 1994.
COAST GUARD UNIT HONORED: The Coast Guard's Facilities Design and Construction Center Atlantic received the ``Commandant's Quality Award,'' the service's highest recognition for quality, in a ceremony at the Norfolk center. The command, made up of civilian and military members, was given the award for quality methods and concepts in planning, designing and building shore facilities for Atlantic Coast Guard units.
VETS GROUP DONATES CHECK: The Virginia State Council of Vietnam Veterans has presented $1,100 to Camp Civitan, a camp for developmentally disabled people that is administered by Family Services of Tidewater. The money will be used to help fund summer camp for children of Vietnam veterans born after their fathers were exposed to the chemical Agent Orange. Family Services has provided counseling and summer camp recreation for Vietnam veterans, their families and disabled children since 1991. Veterans wanting more information about the camp and support offered by Family Services should contact 622-7017.

RETURNING:
Military Sealift Command's fleet oiler John Lenthall arrived home in Norfolk Tuesday following a six-month deployment to the Mediterranean Sea. Its crew of 82 civil service mariners and 21 Navy personnel is commanded by Merchant Marine Capt. Alex Prieto. The ship serviced units of the Theodore Roosevelt and American battle groups, plus the Kearsarge and Wasp amphibious ready groups.
CHANGE OF COMMAND:
Capt Michael D. Malone relieved Capt. Richard J. Naughton as commanding officer of the carrier Enterprise on Friday. Malone most recently served as executive assistant to Adm. William J. Flanagan, commander in chief of the Atlantic Fleet. Naughton had commanded the Enterprise since Aug. 27, 1993, taking it through a complex refueling and overhaul at Newport News Shipbuilding. He is being reassigned to the Atlantic Fleet Naval Air Force headquarters in Norfolk.
Cmdr. Kevin K. Uhrich has assumed duties as executive officer, Naval Computer and Telecommunications Area Master Station Atlantic. He relieved Lt. Cmdr. Diane M. Enbody. The unit's mission is to provide a full range of communications, information technology and information management support services to Navy, Department of Defense and other federal agencies worldwide. The command serves as headquarters for one of four naval communications regions around the world.
