As a full-time mom raising two small children, I am very much in favor of the Republican plan to expand individual-retirement accounts for people in my situation.
It has never made any sense for the law to allow women who work outside the home to take advantage of IRAs but prevent folks like me from doing so.
For more than 10 years, Dick Gephardt and the rest of his Democrat cohorts, such as Owen Pickett, did absolutely nothing to remedy this unfairness. Now, at last, the Republicans, led by Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchinson, are introducing legislation which will finally allow ``stay-at-home mothers'' (and fathers) to put aside tax-free dollars for their retirement years. I guess the Democrats don't think I am entitled to an IRA.
