Holy smokes! Them is expensive trees along Shore Drive!
I agree with those opposed to the removal of 345 trees along Shore Drive, which is supposed to eliminate the carnage. I think the traffic experts feel compelled to do something, so they decide that a million dollars worth of trees removed will do the trick. The people getting tricked are the taxpayers!
Take $1 million and divide by 345 trees and you get $2,899 per tree. A professional tree service recently removed several trees for me for about $300 per tree. That's nearly one-tenth of the city's cost per tree. I suppose the city's estimate is about right, though, when considering this is government work and they need the appropriate crew leaning on their shovels while two do the work.
Save the trees, and apply a million to the Virginia Beach school deficit.
