Rev. Hugh Harold Whitfield, 72, of the 1300 block of Cary Ave., died Feb. 1, 1996, at DePaul Medical Center.
A retired aircraft machinist, Mr. Whitfield was employed by the Naval Air Rework Facility for 37 and a half years. He was an associate minister and member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Norfolk. He received a certificate of graduation from the Roanoke Institute Unit of Shaw University, The Department of Religious Promotion in Elizabeth City, N.C. in 1957.
He is survived by his wife, Mattie L. Bogues Whitfield; a stepdaughter, Dorothy Turner Mitchell of South Mills, N.C.; a sister, Zudora Harris of Bronx, N.Y.; 18 step-grandchildren; 26 step great-grandchildren; a step great-great-grandchild; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Christina Hardy Whitfield and Charlie Whitfield.
A funeral will be held Friday at noon. Rev. Dr. John H. Foster will preside over the service at Shiloh Baptist Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetary, Norfolk. Family and friends will assemble at the home on Friday at 11 a.m. for the funeral procession to the church. The remains will be placed in church at 10 a.m. Friday. Hale Funeral Home, Norfolk, is in charge.
