Albert James Rittenberry, 67, died Feb. 6, 1996, in a Portsmouth hospital.
He was a native of Lawrenceburg, Tenn. and the retired Chief of the U.S. Navy, ship service, where he worked for 30 years. He was also retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce I. Rittenberry; six daughters, Alberta Scott of Blue Ridge, Va., Robin Whitley of Chesapeake, Debra Lewis of Chesapeake, Cheryle Houck of Norfolk, Kathleen Davis of Chesapeake, Melissa Rittenberry of Portsmouth; two sisters, Billie-Jo Rittenberry and Faye Eskew, both of Springhill, Tenn; two brothers, Frank Rittenberry of Chesapeake, and Samuel Rittenberry of Manchester, Tenn.; 11 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Billy Lloyd Rittenberry.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, by the Rev. Robert F. Cofield Jr. and the Rev. Scott M. Rimer. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude's Children Hospital, Memphis, Tenn.
