U.S. Sen. Charles S. Robb, who has been among the most reliable Congressional supporters of the Clinton administration's policy in Bosnia, tried Wednesday to prod the president into moving more aggressively to get Iranian forces out of Bosnia.
Robb, a Virginia Democrat, introduced a resolution calling on Clinton to push for a United Nations embargo on Iranian oil exports until the estimated 200 Iranian Revolutionary Guards in northern Bosnia have been removed.
Iran sent troops to aid Bosnian Muslims in their bloody civil war with Serbs.
Robb's resolution said Clinton should step up diplomatic pressure on the Muslim-led Bosnian government to assure that it keeps its promises to have all foreign forces withdrawn from the country.
And, if all that fails, the administration should use military force to get the Iranians out, Robb added.
A Robb spokeswoman said the senator's staff is recruiting Senate co-sponsors for the resolution and plans to meet with Senate leaders to get quick action on the proposal.
Robb also hopes the administration will move on its own along the lines he has suggested, the spokeswoman said. by CNB
