Police on Wednesday released a sketch of a man who tricked an Oceanfront motel clerk into opening a protective partition Jan. 31 and then raped, robbed and abducted her.
The man told a clerk behind the desk of the Quality Inn near 21st Street and Parks Avenue that his car had broken down. When she opened the glass partition to hand him a phone, he grabbed her and forced his way into the motel office, police spokesman Mike Carey said.
At knife-point, the intruder demanded money from the cash register and forced the clerk into a room where he repeatedly assaulted her for several hours, Carey said.
Then, the attacker forced the woman to drive him to a nearby intersection, where he ran away.
Police described the assailant as black and in his late 20s or early 30s, about 5-foot-9 and weighing 185 pounds. He had short, unkempt hair and a moustache. His face was round and he had a slightly protruding abdomen. The attacker was last seen wearing faded jeans with a bleach spot on the left leg, a white short-sleeved T-shirt with a Calvin Klein logo, and brown boots.
