OUT AND ABOUT in the Virginia Beach sports scene:
FALL HONOREES: The Virginia Beach Sports Club recently honored its choices for outstanding high school fall sports athletes.
Each year, the club makes seasonal sports awards and then yearly awards at its annual Jamboree - scheduled this year for March 11 at the Sheraton Beach Inn.
This fall's winners were Kim Miller of Cox for field hockey; Adrienne Parker of Kempsville for girls cross country; Kris Beck of Cox for boys cross country; Mily Kannarkat of First Colonial for girls tennis; Jenny Harmon of Salem for girls volleyball; Kevin Jones of Tallwood for boys volleyball; Troy Cummings of Cox for golf; and Mike Majette of Princess Anne for football.
Miller broke her own state scoring records and finished third on the national lists for career and single-season goals while leading the Falcons to a national record seventh-straight state championships.
Majette broke the area's career rushing total in his senior season.
Cummings captured the Group AAA state individual championship in guiding Cox to a second straight second-place finish.
GET READY TO RUMBLE - OR WATCH ON TV: Local boxing promoters Jack Crider and Bob Fregin will venture into the broadcasting business Feb. 22 with the first production for the newly formed Ringside Boxing Network.
The endeavor will show tape delayed fights on a local and national level, with hopes of someday going international. Creative Video Productions will do all the filming for the new company.
``Our first show will be at the Boat House and it will feature a couple of championship fights,'' Crider said. ``Then we're looking at another card in Michigan in March.''
The Feb. 22 card in Norfolk will feature Virginia Beach's Bernice Barber in a U.S. Boxing Association 12-rounder for the vacant regional middleweight title. He'll take on Buck Buchannon of Kinston, N.C.
Kevin Hall of Virginia Beach will face Anthony Ross of Alexandria in a 10-rounder for the USBA's vacant Virginia junior middleweight belt.
Several other bouts featuring local fighters are scheduled for the card that begins at 8 p.m. Doors open at 7 p.m. and tickets are $20 with $10 tickets available for standing-room-only areas. They are available at all Ticket Masters locations, and at Karate International and the Norfolk Elks Lodge.
Info: 420-4430.
If you can't make it, it will be on TV.
