CRIME LINE

Local police are asking public assistance in solving these cases:

NORFOLK

On Monday, Jan. 15, about 8 p.m., a 19-year-old Navy man stationed in Norfolk used a NationsBank ATM at Wards Corner.

Just after he received his money, a man approached and robbed him. The robber implied he had a weapon.

A photo was taken by a security camera and, despite the partial obstruction of the suspect's face, police believe someone might still be able to identify the man.

He is described as black, age 25, 6 feet tall and 150 pounds. He was wearing a brown leather jacket and blue jeans.

When using an ATM, always check your surroundings, especially at night.

1995 was another successful year for Norfolk Crime Line. Not only did calls increase, but also, one all-time record was set.

During the year, 102 people were arrested due to Crime Line tips. As a result, 692 crimes were solved, a record for Norfolk. More than $100,000 in stolen property and drugs were recovered and almost $24,000 in rewards were paid.

Since Norfolk Crime Line's inception in 1981, more than 4,500 cases have been cleared, leading to the arrest of 1,674 people. More than $4 million in stolen property and drugs have been recovered, and Crime Line has paid more than $300,000 in rewards.
