Ray Vambert Cahoon, 79, of the 100 block of Dogwood Circle, died Saturday at his Manteo residence.
Born in Swan Quarter on Feb. 28, 1916, he was the son of the late Abram and Katie Swindell Cahoon. He was owner and operator of R.V. Cahoon Inc. Store in Nags Head since 1962, a member of Atlantic Lodge (NU)294, AF & AM, a Shriner and member of Swan Quarter Christian Church.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Wheeler Cahoon; two daughters, Renee Cahoon of Nags Head and Charlene C. Heroux of Manteo; a brother, Joshua W. Cahoon of Norfolk; three sisters, Elizabeth C. Harris of Norfolk, Kathleen C. Whitley of Pantego and Grace C. Spencer of Swan Quarter; two grandchildren, Ryan and Brett Heroux.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Swan Quarter Christian Church with Raffael Farrow Jr. and the Rev. Robert Bundy officiating. Burial will follow in Soule Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Bryan Funeral Service, Swan Quarter, from 7 to 9 p.m. today and other times at their Swan Quarter Home, Route 1.
The family suggests that memorials be sent to Swan Quarter Christian Church, Swan Quarter, N.C. 27885, or Shriner's Crippled Children's Hospital, Sudan Temple, P.O. Drawer 490, New Bern, N.C. 28563.
