A man confronted by police on 29th Bay St. Tuesday night fired at an officer, but the officer wasn't hit, authorities said.
Police said the officer, who wasn't identified, noticed a suspicious person and approached him. The man fired at the officer and ran away.
The incident began in the 9500 block of 29th Bay St. about 9:40 p.m. The officer chased the suspect who escaped. Several police officers and police dogs converged on the area near 29th Bay St. and Pleasant Avenue. The Virginia Beach police helicopter assisted in the search, authorities said.
Shortly after the shooting, police stopped a person near the Cutty Sark Marina who fit the description of the suspect, but it wasn't known if that person was charged.
