Lessie Cowan Halstead, 85, of the 3700 block of S. Battlefield Blvd., died Feb. 13, 1996.
Mrs. Halstead was a native of Norfolk. She was the daughter of the late William W. and Bessie McCoy Cowan. She was the wife of the late Robert Lee Halstead. Mrs. Halstead was a member of Hickory United Methodist Church. She was retired from the U.S. Postal Service after serving 24 years. She was a member of the Hickory Senior Citizens Club, and a member of the Hickory United Methodist Women.
Survivors include a daughter, Shirley H. Harrell of Chesapeake; sister, Doris Whitehurst of Virginia Beach; three grandchildren, Susan P. Glisson of Beaver Dam, Va., Toni P. McKenna of Arnold, Md., and J. Wesley Peoples Jr. of Chesapeake; and nine great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of Twiford Funeral Home on Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Tom Mercer officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Twiford Colonial Chapel, Great Bridge, Chesapeake, and all other times at the home of the daughter. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hickory United Methodist Church.
