The Rev. James E. Vinson Sr., 68, of Route 1, died Sunday, Feb. 11, 1996, in Southampton Memorial Hospital.
He was the husband of Elsie Futrell Vinson and a native of Northampton County, N.C. He was a minister and a member of Jerusalem Baptist Church. He was a current member of Leigh Beauty Lodge (NU)58 and pastor of Byrant Baptist Church, Capron, Va., and Zoar Baptist Church, Boykins.
He is survived by his four daughters, Darleen Smith of Raleigh, N.C., Jane Mann of Woodland, N.C, Olivia Jenkins of Garysburg, N.C., and Minister Cornelia Jacob of Englewood, N.J.; four sons, Chaplin James E. Vinson Jr. of Gulf Port, Miss., Willie C. Vinson of Gaston, N.C., George Vinson of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., and Eugene Vinson of Teaneck, N.Y.; five sisters, Clara Powell of Ahoskie, N.C., Nannie Eaton of Kelford, N.C. Carrie Ward and Maxine Gatling, both of Woodland, N.C., and Harriet Glover of East Orange, N.J.; three brothers, William Vinson of Richmond, John Vinson of Rochester, N.Y., and Goldie Peele of Gatesville, N.C.; a foster son, Billy Tyler of Silver Springs, Md.; 20 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Jerusalem Baptist Church, Woodland, by the Rev. W. Robert Ashe Sr. Burial is in the church cemetery. There will be a viewing today from noon to 9 p.m. in Hunter's Funeral Home Chapel, Ahoskie. The body will lay in state Friday from noon until 1:45 p.m. at Jerusalem Baptist Church.
