ANTHONY LA GIGLIA DIES; WAS DANCE CHOREOGRAPHER

Anthony La Giglia, a modern dance choreographer and performer associated with Dance Theater Workshop and the Judson Church postmodernist dance movement in the 1960s and '70s, died Jan. 23 at Cabrini Hospital in Manhattan. He was 54 and lived in Manhattan.

The cause was AIDS, said Beverly Brown, a friend.

Born in Virginia Beach, La Giglia moved to New York City in the early 1960s to study with Martha Graham. He also trained with Charles Weidman, Merce Cunningham, Don Farnworth, Erick Hawkins and Brown.

During the 1960s and '70s he performed with many choreographers, including Weidman, John Butler, Stuart Hodes, Brown, Don Redlich, Phoebe Neville and Art Bauman.

La Giglia was best known, however, for his work with Rudy Perez and Barbara Roan. He was a founding member of the Rudy Perez Dance Theater and served as co-director of Roan's company in the 1970s. He also had his own company from 1978 until the early 1980s.

He is survived by his parents, Jane and Joseph La Giglia of Virginia Beach, and a sister, Jo Ann Delplato, of Orange Beach, Ala. by CNB
