BANKING
Steven E. Kocen was named first vice president of marketing and sales manager by CENIT Bancorp Inc., the Norfolk-based parent of CENIT Bank and Princess Anne Bank. Kocen previously had been a vice president of Crestar Bank and market segment manager for the affluent banking group. In the early 1980s, Kocen was vice president and manager of branch sales and marketing for Citizens Trust, a Portsmouth bank that was acquired by Signet Bank in 1985.
Lorie D. Sarrett was promoted to vice president at Central Fidelity National Bank. She currently serves as an account manager for the bank's Peninsula commercial division at Oyster Point in Newport News. She joined the bank in 1990 and previously served as senior specialist in loan review for the bank.
ENGINEERING
Andy Landrum was named a program manager for HDR Engineering Inc. in Virginia Beach. Prior to this, he was director of environmental services for Clark, Nexsen, Owen, Barbieri, Gibson in Norfolk.
HEALTH CARE
Janice Karr was named director of education at the Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters. Formerly a clinical education specialist for the hospital, she will be responsible for clinical educational services and support, organizational development and training, patient and family education and computer training.
Dr. Michael E. Lee has joined the medical staff at NDC Medical Center, a Sentara Medical Group member. Lee is board certified in internal medicine and medical oncology and board eligible in hematology.
LAW
Charles M. Salle was named a member at large of the Virginia Beach Planning Commission. He was formerly the vice chairman of the Virginia Beach Board of Zoning Appeals. He is a partner with Pender & Coward and practices in the corporate section.
Leslie R. Watson, David N. Reda and Bill H. McKinnon have joined Wolcott, Rivers, Wheary, Basnight & Kelly in Virginia Beach. All were former partners with Croshaw, Beale, Hauser & Lewis. Watson will practice in real estate, commercial and entertainment law. Reda will practice in the areas of commercial, corporate, transactional and financing law, labor and employment law. McKinnon will concentrate in banking, estate planning, closely held business planning and elder law.
Alfred M. Randolph Jr., a partner with Kaufman & Canoles, was installed as chairman of the Virginia Bar Association's Young Lawyers Division. The Young Lawyers Division of the Virginia Bar Association engages in both service to the Bar and service to the public projects.
And, Winship C. Tower, also a partner with Kaufman & Canoles, was re-elected for a second term as chairman of the Virginia Bar Association's Domestic Relations Section Council.
MUSEUMS
Samuel J. Wegner was named to the new position of deputy executive director of museum operations and education at the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation in Williamsburg. He will be responsible for public programs, research and collections at the foundations's two museums - Jamestown Settlement and the Yorktown Victory Center and for outreach and on-site educational services. He was formerly executive director of the Southern Oregon Historical Society, Medford, Ore.
ORGANIZATIONS
Matthew Weinstein, president of Managed Networks of America, was appointed the president of Angel Kiss Foundation Inc., a charity that financially helps families with children that have life threatening blood diseases.
RETAIL
Three new directors were appointed and another reappointed to the Camellia Food Stores' board. Richard Saunders, an attorney with Furniss, Davis, Rashkind & Saunders in Norfolk, was appointed a new director for the board. He was elected to a three-year term along with Guy R. Sykes, president and chief executive officer of Camellia Foods. William C. Confer Sr., who heads a food-industry consulting company, was elected to a one-year term. Board member Frank Fentress, a founder of the Be-Lo chain before it was acquired by Camellia, was reappointed to another three-year term.
SHIPBUILDING
Edward A. Waryas Jr. was named director of commercial marketing at Newport News Shipbuilding. He joined the shipyard in 1993 as director of domestic marketing and sales.
He succeeds Charles Jenkins, who was selected by the company to head one of seven newly-established process innovation teams.
UTILITIES
Ann R. Chamberlain was named vice president of rates and gas supply at Virginia Natural Gas. She will be responsible for the management of all rate and regulatory functions as well as the planning and procurement of the company's gas supplies. Previously, she was assistant vice president of rates, gas supply and corporate budgeting.
