The recent Old Dominion University basketball game against American University was not only a victory for the Monarch team but also was one for the Old Dominion University library.
Although The Virginian-Pilot did not note this distinction in the game, it was a special Baskets for Books night sponsored jointly by the Athletic Department and the Friends of the ODU Library. A percentage of the proceeds went to the library.
In addition, radio station WGH-AM contributed to the library proceeds by sponsoring a free-throw contest at halftime between announcer Tony Mercurio and President James Koch of Old Dominion. The event was a great example of the ODU athletic program working with the academic side of the university. All involved should be applauded
