AL RITTER, FORMER EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT

Al Ritter, former executive vice president and chief financial officer of TeleCable Corp. of Norfolk, has been named to the same positions at Landmark Communications Inc., Norfolk-based parent of The Virginian-Pilot.

As part of Landmark's chief executive officer team, Ritter will be responsible for corporate finance, accounting, taxes, internal control, treasury, risk management, insurance and corporate information-management systems. He will also be very involved in developing corporate strategy.

Louis Ryan, who had responsibility for financial functions, will continue as a Landmark executive vice president, general counsel and a member of the company's CEO team. He will also play a role in developing corporate strategy.

Ritter worked for Landmark once before, having joined the company in 1976 and rising to vice president of finance. He left Landmark in 1984 when its then-TeleCable subsidiary was spun off into a separate company. TeleCable was sold in 1995 in a stock-swap merger with Tele-Communications Inc., the nation's largest cable-TV operator.

Ritter, a graduate of the College of William and Mary, serves on the board of Norfolk Academy and is a former president of The Planning Council in Norfolk and a former chair of the Azalea Festival.
