An apparent dispute between a man and a woman ended in gunfire Friday night in the busy parking lot of the Janaf shopping center.
Police said Ann J. Lim, 51, of Chesapeake was shot several times as she stood near her car parked in front of the Fashion Plaza store.
Investigators were not saying what the motive for the shooting was, but witnesses said it appeared the woman and the gunman had been arguing before several shots were heard.
The man then jumped into a nearby car and sped away.
No one else was reported hurt, although other people in the area scurried for cover.
Lim, a Realtor, was taken to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Line at 664-4040.
