Gerald V. Van Tiem

NORFOLK - Gerald V. Van Tiem, 73, of the 8000 block of Walters Drive, died Feb. 26, 1996, in a local hospital.

Mr. Van Tiem was the son of the late Vincent P. Van Tiem and Josephine F. Weitzel Van Tiem. Mr. Van Tiem was a veteran of World War II. He retired from the Naval Reserves in January, 1961, and retired from the Naval Air Rework Facilities (N.A.R.F.), Civil Service, in July, 1974. He was employed by The Virginian-Pilot/Ledger-Star from May, 1978, through March, 1984. He was preceded in death by his infant son, David G. Van Tiem. He was a Roman Catholic and was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association Branch (NU)5.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Audrey Thompson Van Tiem; four sons, Gerald V. of Norfolk, Thomas F. of Dumfries, Va., Patrick G. of Atlanta, and Michael G. of Norfolk; three grandchildren, Gregory S., Shawn P., and Jennifer M. Van Tiem; and one sister, Shirley A. Dulzo of Farmington Hills, Mich.

A chapel service will be conducted at 11 a.m., today at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel, by the Rev. Patrick Doody. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to St. Mary's Infant Home, 317 Chapel St., Norfolk, Va., 23510.
