Mary Andrews McNair, born Dec. 2, 1902, of the 5500 block of Berry Hill Road, died Feb. 28, 1996, in Sentara Leigh Memorial Hospital.
She was a native of Edgecomb County, N.C., and the widow of the Rev. Johnnie H. McNair. She was a member of Weeping Mary Baptist Church, Tarboro, N.C. She was guided by the hand of Christ and was active in many facets of life in the church. She was active in Missionary Work, the Mothers Board, the Hospitality Committee, and was the Mother of the Church. The example of her Christian life has lead many of her children to be pastors of churches, evangelists and missionary workers.
She is survived by four daughters, Evangelist Ida B. Corney, Missionary Connie Lee Jones of Norfolk, Annie Topping of Mansfield, Ohio, and Rabie Andrews of Dunbury, Conn.; six sons, Elder Wilbert J. McNair Sr. of Virginia Beach, Elder Toney L. McNair Sr. of Chesapeake, J.P. McNair of Tarboro, N.C., Rev. Henry Lee Moses McNair of Rochester, N.Y., Hector P. McNair of Sacramento, Calif., and Willie W.D. McNair of Columbus, S.C.; parents, Della Winston and Tony Andrews; two sisters, Blanche Andrews of Bethel, N.C., and Elnora Harris of New Jersey; brother, Jeff Andrews of New Jersey; 44 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two children, Jonus Andrews and Maybill Andrews Bell.
A funeral will be conducted Wednesday in Tarboro, N.C., by the Rev. John H. Williams in Macedonia Baptist Church, Tarboro, N.C. Burial is in Dancy Cemetery. Viewing will be Monday from 2 to 6 p.m. at Riddick Funeral Home. There will be a wake Monday at 7 p.m. at Christ Cathedral C.O.D.I.C., 301 W. 32nd St. There will be a Christian wake held Tuesday at Macedonia Baptist Church, Tarboro, N.C., at 7 p.m.
