JAMES E. SPEIGHT

James Edgar Speight, 85, of 909 Pennsylvania Ave., died March 2, 1996.

A native of Sunbruy, N.C., he was the son of the late William Henry and Ophelia Pierce Speight. Mr. Speight was a retired peanut processor with Birdsong Peanuts. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Nansemond Lodge (NU)77 and Mt. Nebo (NU)20 Royal Arch Chapter. For many years, he was a Boy Scout leader and was a recipient of the coveted Silver Beaver.

Survivors include his wife, Rosetta Baker Speight; three sons, William H. Speight of Charlotte, N.C., Charles David Speight of Roanoke and James Edgar Speight of Cary, N.C.; one granddaughter and two grandsons.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in Holly Lawn Cemetery by the Rev. Charles W. Thompson. The family will receive friends in the R.W. Baker and Co. Funeral Home today from 4 to 6 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund or the Nansemond-Suffolk Rescue Squad.
