TESTS REVEAL LATEST FLAW IN CERTAIN TILT-ROTOR AIRCRAFT

Pentagon officials are perplexed by test results showing that severe downblast from the V-22 Osprey would prevent the aircraft from being used to dispatch commandos.

The problem, detailed in a published report Monday, affects a relatively small portion of the 523 V-22s the Pentagon plans to buy. But it marks the latest in a series of setbacks that have hampered development of the tilt-rotor aircraft.

The persistent problem appeared in tests last summer and fall at Patuxent River Naval Air Station, Md., says Defense Week magazine. by CNB
