Regarding ``Socket to em?'' (editorial, Feb. 24) which questioned the government's procurement mentality:
I would have praised the Navy's Military Sealift Command for its ingenuity. It seemed apparent to me that the new procurement account was exhausted, whereas the repair account was flush.
As for the $210 price tag for each new table lamp, please remember that was the catalog price. Had the supply officer shopped around a bit, he probably could have bought the lamps for less; but would that have enriched the local economy nearly as much as the repairs?
